Amazon is probably the biggest bookseller in the world . The Amazon.ie site redirects you to Amazon UK - and they deliver books cds and dvds to Ireland (Cheaper than some Irish based online bookshops)
Irish Customers Visit Amazon Here
Books delivered to Ireland cost £3.99 ( approx €6 euro) per order plus £0.99 per item (approx €1.50 euro). An order of 4 books would cost about €12 to deliver here - but the savings you can make compared to Easons or Reads can be fairly large - even on Irish books!
Cds and DVds cost less to deliver - just £1.49 per delivery and £0.39 for each item.
Airmail delivery time to Ireland is listed by Amazon as 3-5 days, so if you order an item that is in stock you should receive it 4-6 days after placing your order. To get orders delivered to Iris addresses by Christmas you should probably be placing your orders on or before 15th December 2007
I did a quick price comparison today - in advance of the upcoming Christmas shopping rush and was quite surprised at what I found.
I found that buying books online in Ireland can works out cheaper on Amazon UK than on Easons online shop.
Delivery charges within Ireland from Easons - surprisingly cost more than Amazon UK.
Three books from Easons would cost €13.50 for postage - the same 3 books would be delivered by Amazon to Ireland for £6.94 GBP - which is about €10.50 euro. (Easons do have a max delivery charge of €21.)
A quick random price comparison of 3 popular books on Amazon and Easons websites uncovered the following:
Anne Enright - The Gathering €14.99 Easons ; Amazon price £6.49 (€9.75)
Guinness Book of World Records Amazon Price £9.00 (€13.50) Easons €19.99
Making Money - Terry Pratchett: Amazon UK price £9.49 (€14.25) Easons - €14.42
Every book chosen (at random) - was cheaper on Amazon. Buying 3the books at Easons online with delivery to Ireland would cost you about €17 euro more than buying them from Amazon.
Breakdown of Delivery Charges:
Easons charge €6.50 for the 1st book and €3.50 per book after that (max €21)
Amazon UK charge £3.99 per order of books and £0.99 per book in the order.
