Where to buy Ebooks in Ireland

The past year or two we have seen a big rise in the popularity of eReaders . Ebook readers such as the Kindle and the Sony Reader will be on many people’s Christmas lists this year . After Christmas many people will be ow looking to buy or download some ebooks to read on their brand new eReader.

If you have a Kindle reader from Amazon - then you are tied to getting your ebooks in Kindle format - which are only available from Amazon.  The Kindle will not read other formats and Kindle format books cannot be read on other e-Readers. you can’t buy Kindle books unless you have a Kindle reader registered to your Amazon account. Irish residents must buy Kindles and Kindle Books from Amazon.Com not Amazon UK because of copyright and publishing rules.

Irish residents can also buy the Kindle online at Viking Direct - with free next day delivery anywhere in Ireland.

Other ebook readers can cope with various formats of e-books that are more widely available to purchase and download - the most common ones are Epub and PDF

Book Depository no longer sell ebooks -

Waterstones online bookshop also sell ebooks - and they are available for Irish residents too.

You would expect the prices of ebooks to be cheaper than those of printed books - and usually they are - but we have seen a few examples of ebooks being more expensive than the same  printed book from the same website!
